IN-FEST ‘93
This three day event, IN-FEST ’93 was an ‘Independent Music and Arts Festival’ of notable proportions for Southern Alberta in the early 90’s and even by today’s standards.
Carrying headlining acts such as THE RAMONES & BAD BRAINS, supported by over 40 or more other bands throughout the three day event, this festival should be noted not only in Alberta, but Canadian Music History as well.
As fans and musicians alike flooded the area of High River, in fact the festival population exceeded the population of High River over night. ‘Tent-cities’ went up in a matter of hours, with fire-pits and lawn chairs. The sound of ghetto-blasters and acoustic guitars was everywhere. It was Woodstock for punk rockers.

Various Artists - Something To Believe in (1984)
Various Artists - Something To Believe in (1984) |
What we have here is an effort to communicate. An effort by no less than 16 bands comprising some of the best in Canadian and American underground music. Some of the bands you may be familiar with, others may be new. All together they make up, “SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN,” t...he second compilation album from the BYO. Here at the BYO, we’ve always felt music to be much more than just entertainment. Music has power to cross all boundaries; it is a universal means of communication. With this ideal in mind, we put together this album. “SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN,” is not necessarily a statement of any political, social of philosophical view. It is intended as an example of how one must believe in oneself. Once that is done, anything is possible. And in these foreboding times, in the magic year of 1984, we offer “SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN,” for your consideration.
The compilation stands up to B.Y.O.'s usual excellent standards - good bands, good sound, good package. A must compilation, the only thing I don't like is the cover.
-Al Flipside, from Flipside #43, 1984
